Commitment to Communication
The Madison Alumni & Friends Association
is rooted in our commitment to communication. Our goal is to generate interest, not only locally but eventually with Alumni nationwide, where we can develop more formal relationships with former graduates and local community members who have a desire to see Madison schools succeed! Eventually, we hope to help manage contact information, assist graduating classes to stay in touch with one another, develop a mentoring network for our students, and ultimately foster financial support of our schools through donations. New Homecoming Event
Madison added a new event to the Homecoming festivities for 2016. On Friday, September 16 the Alumni & Friends Association kicked off with our Inaugural Alumni Tailgate Picnic. It was a beautiful evening for family, football, and fun! Capping the evening was the Cub win over Jennings County to secure the Battle of the Railroad trophy and the crowning of our Homecoming Queen Shane Baker and King Will Monroe, both Seniors.

"We were very pleased with the turnout and consider our kickoff event a success," shared Ashley Schutte, Communications Coordinator. "We honestly were not sure what to expect, there were several things we were monitoring. First, it was a big night for our community as the historic Bicentennial Torch Relay visited Madison and we knew this historic event would be well attended. The weather forecast always creates excitement when planning an outdoor event and by kickoff, it was perfect! And finally, the concept of an alumni association, at the high school level, isn't all that common so we are introducing a new idea to our community. We are really trying to reach out and engage our community in order to generate interest, not only locally but eventually with Alumni nationwide, where we can develop more formal relationships with former graduates and local community members who have a desire to see Madison schools succeed!"
The event began two hours prior to kickoff and provided families a relaxing picnic setting with a free grilled hot dog, chips, and a drink. "It was important to us that we make this as easy as possible so people could just stop by before the game, grab a quick bite, relax, and have a great time together," shared Darleen Connolly, Class of '66 and Committee Member.
Graduates were invited to share their contact information in return for a chance to win a Madison Spirit Basket. The basket, valued at around $300, had items donated from a number of generous individuals and included two MCHS All Sports passes, two Madison Theatre season tickets, two stadium seats, a Madison football t-shirt and quarter zip pullover, two Madison athletics t-shirts, one MJHS M card, two Madison sports bottles, a cooler, and a fleece blanket. Brad Bentz, Class of '82 was the lucky winner!
"This was a great community event which we hope to see growth year after year," states Schutte. " We had a great committee of volunteers working on this event. There is an incredible number of positive things happening in our community and we hope to work together with other organizations to help each of them be a success. By working together, in order to share information and opportunities, everyone wins. Our schools are an integral part of our community and we have dedicated students, families, staff, and community leaders who are committed to helping share our story and highlight student success. We want to engage our alumni, near and far, in the conversation as well."
