Award Winning Art Student - Britta Hess

IMG 20170124 201212MCHS freshman and Fine Arts Academy student, Britta Hess has been recognized as a Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Award Honorable Mention Winner for Central and Southern Indiana.

The piece, "He Sees Me", (pictured with Britta) was created using a technique called Stippling. As defined in the Art History Glossary, the act of stippling involves covering an area with dots. What comes right to mind is a wildly time-consuming technique, done with a technical pen and ink (usually black), in which an image is drawn dot...by dot...by dot.   The resulting image contains no lines. It is a collection of dots, strategically placed to suggest forms, shapes, contrast and depth. It is left to the viewer's eye to complete the picture, a proposition which seldom fails.

Entered in the work category of Drawing and Illustration, Britta's piece was selected by a panel of regional artists and art professionals as having potential from the 61 county region.  Her work was part of a class assignment from her Advanced Art Class.

Britta has been invited to the Awards Ceremony at Clowes Memorial Hall on Sunday, February 26, 2017.  Congratulations on your achievement and thank you for sharing your talent with us!

MCHS FFA Forestry Team Places 10th in State

The State Forestry compeition was held at Purdue University over the weekend and our MCHS FFA team placed 10th in the state!

IMG 6904rTeam members included: Brady McDole, James Weir, Tyson Torrance, and Maranda Elswick.

Mrs. Briggs, FFA Chapter Advisor, shared the competition guidelines.  As with all FFA competitions, the depth and scope of knowledge required of these students is crazy, ridiculous!

The objectives of the  4-H/FFA Ag. Forestry event for youth are:
1. To develop leadership skills, to work as a team, and to practice good study habits.
2. To acquire information about forest ecosystems and forestry skills used in forest management and the utilization of forest products.
3. To appreciate and manage wisely Indiana's forest resources.

With the recent devasting wildfires, regionally and nationally, the work these students are doing today will help to restore and preserve the natural resources in areas effected.
